Keys to a successful interview

Recommendations from our Recruiter, who also went through the role of HR Manager

Do you want this position? The interview is your opportunity to make a good impression, crucial for you to get an offer for a job. That’s why it is extremely important how you will present yourself.

Today we will share some useful tips on how to prepare before the meeting; how to conduct yourself during the conversation; and what actions to take afterward to make the best possible first impression.

BEFORE THE INTERVIEW

1. Investigate the company you are applying for - when was it established; what kind of services they provide; in what countries do they operate; where is the company's headquarters located, etc. It is important to learn as much as you can about the employer before you interview. By adequately researching the organization, you will have a much better chance of creating a positive impression by showing the interviewer that you are familiar with these details.

2. If the interview is conducted online, make sure you have a good internet connection, check the settings of your camera and microphone, make a test call with a friend, and ensure a quiet place with minimal outside noise to stay focused and to be heard clearly by the interviewer.

3. Pay attention to your appearance - the cliché "dress to impress…" is very relevant in this case. If the interview will take place in an office, we advise you to choose neutral colors for your clothes - gray, white, navy blue or black.

A suit jacket/shirt + pants/jeans are suitable clothing for men and women. Of course, ladies can wear a skirt or a dress, but not very short, and without a cropped neckline.

The perfume should be light and unobtrusive. The make-up should be simple.

On the other hand, if you are applying for an artistic position, you could select more extravagant and colorful clothes as they may be more appropriate in this case.

4. Prepare questions to ask at the interview - they may be related to the position, the expectations from the management, next steps, etc. Think about what you would like to share about yourself, your achievements, strengths, goals, and skills. This is your chance to impress the interviewers and allow them to get to know you.

DURING THE INTERVIEW

1. Be punctual - you can be 5 minutes early, but don't be late! You don't want to make an unpleasant impression on your employer before you get hired…

2. Try to look calm - do not avoid eye contact, smile, and do not make nervous movements (playing with hair, tapping, crossing your arms, etc.)

3. Take notes - this will make a positive impression and displays good organization skills, interest in the position, and professionalism. These qualities are especially valued in BPO and the field of administration.

4. Ask your questions - your dialog partner will be glad that you take the initiative to ask or share.

Important: do not complain about former employers and colleagues.

5. Thank the interviewer for their time at the end of the interview - show good manners, and you will stand out from the rest.

6. Ask when you will receive feedback - waiting in ignorance is unpleasant. Find out the next steps, most companies do have pre planned the process and have a deadline for hiring their candidates. This will show once again your interest in the position.

AFTER THE INTERVIEW

1. Thank them in writing - write an email to thank the interviewer once again for their time - a small gesture of attention on your part.

2. Keep your promises - if at the interview you agreed to send a certain type of document afterward (for example, a recommendation or a current CV), do it as soon as possible. Remember that there are other candidates, and the quick completion of this small task could be to your advantage over the others.

3. Ask for feedback - if you still have not received feedback after the agreed deadline, send an inquiry by email. There may be a technical issue that has prevented them from contacting you.

With little preparation, a friendly attitude, and good manners you could win over your employers. Show your best side - the job interview is the right time to present yourself.
